October 2, 2018
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. We read together the “Thought For Today” from Max Lucado and Marion opened with prayer.
The September 4, 2018 minutes were approved as printed. Discussion from the attending principals included:
USHERS – Al Houdek reported someone has been contacted about making new Usher lapel tags. Several are missing. Jim Betz reported there is still a need for a backup list of ushers at the 10:30 service. October 1 is the usual time to change from casual to dressy for ushering – or whenever the pastors make their change.
GREETERS – Dottie Neil-Paap reported she uses two greeters for each service and her volunteer list is full, but new volunteers are always welcome. She finds it is sometimes necessary to make a reminder call to greeters.
ACOLYTES – Bonnie Boisvert reported she is only filling in at the 9:00 service as ACOLYTES ARE NEEDED. She also reported there is a fear of falling and/or tripping when wearing the white robes during the winter. It is hopeful they can be eliminated or, at the very least, shortened. The new 10:30 service format eliminates the need for acolytes. The candles are being lit before the service starts – by a 10:30 usher or by the 9:00 acolyte after that service.
LITURGISTS – Sharon Burke reported all slots are full through December, but new volunteers are always welcome.
PEW CRAWLERS – Arlan Steen reported he has been helping Farris in the sanctuary. He also reported there are a variety of outdated Stephen Ministry brochures in the pews. They should all be removed and current ones provided. Bonnie reported the same is true in the Chapel.
ATTENDANCE RECORDERS – Arlan Steen reported all is going well in this area. A few registration books were missing recently, but were later found. A reminder that they need to be placed at the end of the pew only, not in the book rack.
WELCOME WAGON – David McCord reported there is still very little use of the Welcome Wagon, however, the position of the Welcome Wagon is good right now in relation to the choir lining up to go in.
COMMUNION STEWARDS – VOLUNTEER(S) FOR THIS RESPONSIBILITY ARE NEEDED IMMEDIATELY. Bonnie Fitting, Martha Gentry and Bertha Chambers refill for the second service, but volunteers are needed before November 4 for the 9:00 preparation. This would be an excellent task for a couple, but any and all volunteers are welcome. Please call the church office if you are interested.
SEASONAL DECORATING/VISUALS – Gwen Kiser reported they are changing the visuals on the choir loft wall seasonally. They are also the ones who change the table centerpieces in Smoot Hall seasonally. In response to Pastor John’s request to do altar decorations during the year, it was reported Marva Fife has expressed an interest in doing this and will be contacted.
OTHER – Marion reported we will not meet on November 6th as SPRC needs the Conference Room to meet prior to the Church Conference at 2:30 p.m. As per Pastor John’s suggestion, a signup calendar is now available in the Narthex for those wishing to provide flowers on the altar during the year. Marion also reported she has put together several Toddler Activity Bags for use during the services. The ushers have access to these for distribution.
There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 1:45 with prayer by Marion.
Our next meeting will be DECEMBER 4, 2018 – 1:00 p.m. – Conference Room; SEE YOU THERE! ,
NO MEETING ON NOVEMBER 6 – CONFERENCE ROOM IS NEEDED BY SPRC PRIOR TO CHURCH CONFERENCE AT 2:30
