On the Shelf

Welcome to the Betty Barrick Library!

We have some amazing books on our shelves that will be of interest to our readers!

Massacre at Sand CreekMassacre at Sand Creek – by Gary L. Roberts

This is about how events happened that led up to Chivington’s massacre of Cheyenne Chief Black Kettle and his people.  This book I’ve written about earlier.  It needs to be read again!

An Indigenous PeoplesAn Indigenous Peoples’ History of U.S. – by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz

This is a broader version of how we took land away from the tribes.

First White FrostFirst White Frost: Native Americans and United Methodism – by Homer Noley

This book takes you from the east coast to the west and the pacific coast.  It tells you about the missions and the corrupt actions of our government.  They made treaties with all the tribes on the North American continent which forced the tribes to cede their lands to the white people.  In later years they set up circuits with circuit riders to cover the outer and inner territories.

You will have to read these three books to comprehend what happened.  These books are found in the UMW section of the library.
