There is a UMW book that everyone needs to read. It is;
Called to The Fire by Chet Bush
It is the story of a young African-American who becomes a pastor (with the help of C.R. Smith) of Fitkin’s Memorial Church of the Nazarene in Meridian, Mississippi. It was a turbulent time in the South in the 1960’s. The Ku Klux Klan was running a terror campaign against the African-American people to keep them “in line”. In 1964, three civil rights leaders (Michael Schwerners, Andrew Goodman and James Earl Chaney) came in with CORE to help the African-American community to register to vote. They were later found buried in an earthen dam in Neshoba County, Mississippi. (I was a freshman in high school when this happened). You will have to read this book to find out the details of how this could happen in our country and nation. It shows how God is working in our country and the world!
