A Permanent Priesthood

Hebrews 7:23-28

Even today we still need a priest – someone to intercede on our behalf. Jesus has done that and no longer do we need a human intercessor and we can rely on Christ alone for redemption.

Through history, the priesthood was confined to a line of Hebrews who would accept and perform sacrifices on behalf of people for atonement of their sin. When Jesus died on the cross he replaced the need for human priests once and for all and released us from the need for any other intercessor. Yet, Jesus calls us to be priests to one another, that is, serving others on Jesus’ behalf. Not only does Christ become your personal High Priest, but you become a gift to others as you serve them.
