Today’s scripture: John 1:1-18

“You only live once.” We’ve all heard this phrase but is it true for a follower of Jesus? True, we only go through this world once, but as Christians, we are Easter People – we believe in the resurrection and a life after this short time here. Christmas is over, but now it’s time for Epiphany – the reveling of Jesus as Lord and Savior. This also marks that change from infant Jesus to his life and ministry and how we should and can live in the world as Christians. Epiphany is also our revelation and a time of transformation with Easter on the horizon.

None of the other gospel writers focus so much on Jesus’ transformational life than John. He begins the book with this wonderful passage from chapter one, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”

Through the Light – Jesus, we can actually see and grasp at least a part of God’s glory and that is transformational. It is Jesus who moves us to follow in his footsteps along a path of service, grace, healing, and wholeness which God desires for us. Because of this HOPE we do not live a life of morose resignation, but one of joy. Jesus is truly the life of the Party and when we belong to him we belong to the party of life.
