Today’s scripture: Mark 1:14-20
A willingness to abandon comfort and familiarity can have a powerful and positive impact. Disciples follow Jesus best when they leave the workplace, the comfortable, and the familiar. We need good “walking shoes.”
Missionary Jackie Pullinger noted, “God wants us to have soft hearts and hard feet. The trouble with so many of us is that we have hard hearts and soft feet.” As Christians – followers of Jesus, we are people of action, people who seek justice, mercy, compassion. We care for the sick, hurting, hungry, naked, poor. Our action is a direct response to God’s work in us, the presence of the Holy Spirit. We cannot serve Christ if we only remain in the comfortable and familiar. And we only grow when we are stretched beyond that comfort zone.
