Isaiah 12:2-3
We try to dig our own salvation, earning it by doing good deeds and living a “good” life. Isaiah and Jesus both teach us that is impossible. Only God can provide lasting salvation, freedom, and a guilt-free life.
In the time Isaiah was writing, the people were torn between political leaders, military strength and reclaiming their faith. Isaiah summarizes in chapter 12 what the people need and that is total dependence on God. It is only through God that we can receive the righteousness we need to truly be free. Yet we continue to try and do it on our own. The best part is that because of grace through the blood of the cross, we don’t even need our own bucket, God provides.
