Missions & Outreach for June 2021

MissionsOutreach2

Bibles Presented to UMOM

On Wednesday, April 28th, the Mission and Outreach Committee presented Bibles and religious books to UMOM New Day Centers. Three of our committee members: Carole and Jim Smith and Lynda Johnson presented the books to UMOM Chaplain, Patricia Magyar. UMOM had requested donations of Bibles for adults and children. UMOM provides temporary housing and many services for women and families.

Thanks to donations of our Lakeview UMC members, we were able to present new Bibles and books. These included 30 large print Bibles for adults in English and Spanish, 37 English and Spanish Bibles for children, and 20 Bible story books. In addition, we delivered over 100 donated Bibles, books, and Upper Rooms. Chaplain Magyar expressed their appreciation for the donation and the impact these will have for the clients at UMOM.

The Mission and Outreach Committee would like to thank church members for their donations that made this outreach possible.

Mission and Outreach update

The Mission and Outreach Committee has been busy this past month with the campaign for Habitat for Humanity, supplies for refugees, bible donations for UMOM, donations for Valley Food Bank, JUSTA Center and Mana House. Thanks to the tremendous support from you, the Lakeview congregation, we have been able to provide support and assistance for these organizations in their missions to the world and our community.

Habitat for Humanity: Greg and Karen Odle lead our efforts to support Habitat for Humanity. Our campaign this year has reached $1390 so far in funds that will be used to build new residences or renovate existing residences. Lakeview donated funds to buy a new generator that will be used at building sites. Greg and Karen have organized and delivered three meals to building sites to support the volunteers working on homes.

Supplies for Refugees: Lakeview has donated supplies and funds for refugees forced to flee their homes to seek asylum in the United States. Most of these families have nothing with them. Betty and Lee Stewart delivered supplies that will be given to those stopping briefly in Phoenix before going to other parts of the country.

Bibles for UMOM: The Mission and Outreach Committee delivered approximately $1000 worth of bibles and books to UMOM. These included adult bibles in Spanish and English, children’s bibles in Spanish and English and books about the bible for children. In addition, we delivered several boxes of donated bibles and books.

JUSTA Center Meals: Lakeview through the Mission and Outreach Committee is making and serving one lunch a month to the clients at JUSTA Center. Volunteers from the church have joined committee members in this mission opportunity. The May menu includes sloppy joes and cole slaw. JUSTA Center serves homeless senior citizens.

mo0601213Valley View Food Bank, JUSTA Center and Mana House: Our Lakeview guardian angels: Lee and Betty Stewart, make frequent trips to Valley View Food Bank, JUSTA Center and Mana House with all the items you donate. You can continue to drop donations in the box behind the church.
