Oct. 3, 2021 – 8:00AM Service – A Gourmet Meal for the Spiritually Malnourished

Today’s scripture:  Luke 24:13-35

The story of the walk to Emmaus on that first Easter and how two disciples unexpectedly encounter the risen Jesus in the breaking of the bread. We’ll talk about the meaning of communion for our faith in the simple yet profound actions of Jesus in taking bread, breaking the bread, blessing and  giving the bread to us as a model for our life of faith and a way for us to draw closer to God.

The ways that God acts in our communion meal, taking all that we bring to God (the good, the difficult, the distracted within us). All of us have elements of our lives we don’t want to share-with anyone else, including God. Yet Jesus gladly takes them.

Gratitude that Jesus blesses & gives thanks for what we bring. Jesus takes it to God. Whatever is incomplete in us can be  touched and made holy by God’s presence. Whatever is in formation within us, where our faith feels imperfect or unfinished, God can bless & help us to grow. Feel willing to trust: come taste and see how the Lord is good, that Jesus can bless what we bring, especially our need for God.

Offer ourselves. Lay aside our resistance & hesitancy and allow God to take us and  shape us.  Come and allow God to work in you, to encourage, form, and feed our faith.
