Through the Old Testament we see the Holy Spirit or “God’s Spirit” as it is sometimes described, given to believers at particular times, for particular purposes, to particular people. It was as if the Spirit was given in limited doses. At Pentecost, in Acts 2, there is a dramatic shift when a rush of wind and like flames alighting on top of the disciples, Jesus’ promise from God was fulfilled and the power of God was distributed to all believers. It is like the gift of a universal charge to charge up every single electronic device you own with one cable. No more hunting for the right one, or wondering where you left it. Calling on the Holy Spirit is like turning the power up to full-charge instantly.
