Mary Magdalene Dramatic Performance by Julie Meram

As a young Catholic actor/singer-songwriter from Southern California, I’ve witnessed firsthand the growing gap between Christianity and the arts. Staying a faithful believer while still pursuing my career has found itself to be challenging. I wanted to create something that is not only entertaining, but uplifting and Christ-filled.

I began researching one of the most controversial individuals from the Bible: Mary Magdalene. I was surprised there was very little factual information about her. Who was this woman that stood at the foot of the cross? Pulling from various sources, I began to weave Mary’s narrative together focusing not only on her faults, but on her redemption. I wanted to showcase how Jesus can impact anyone’s life.

Five years and many prayers later, Magdala Productions was born: A company producing uplifting one-person Biblical portrayals bringing the Bible to people’s backyards. The company, named after the woman who inspired the first show, has grown into a theater company that celebrates Christianity through the art of storytelling.
