July & August On the Shelf

On the Shelf

Welcome to the Betty Barrick Library. All are welcome to use our library. We have new and older books that are excellent reads.

Pearl by Lauraine Snelling

Pearl by Lauraine SnellingToday I am featuring one of our older books that explores the Dakota Territory of 1884. This is the second book of the Dakota Treasures Series. If you haven’t read this series, you will surely enjoy this one! It is about a lady named Pearl, who taught school for the tenement and poor children in Chicago. Her father wanted her to marry a man from his firm. During this time, she received a contract from the Territory’s education department to teach school in Little Misery, Dakota. She arrives and lives and teaches with all of the characters from “Ruby”, Book 1.

There are several romances and marriages in this book. You will be surprised by some of them. But there is a sad ending to it that you will have to read to find out.

Year of Plenty by Craig L. Goodwin

Year of Plenty by Craig L GoodwinAnother book from the UMW reading program which you might like to read. When I started reading this book, I really couldn’t understand how this could work. When I finished the book, I realized the program of buying things locally could work. Buying locally benefits the small farmers by giving them more profits for themselves and helping them to be able to compete with the bigger farms. You will have to read this book!

I hope to see you in the library to enjoy our wide selection.
