Heifer Update: Vietnam
Tran Van Cong and his wife Phan Thi Loc have not always been of good cheer. But Heifer changed that. Now they have a better income and find it easier to share. Loc’s family worked as day laborers. They caught fish at night to eat and sell. Fish were easier to spot at night, but that was when the bombing was more intense. Loc and Cong made their living raising rice and beef cattle. Extended droughts caused seawater to seep into the soil, ruining rice crops. Plus the fact that their income was only twice a year. Heifer furnished training and a Heifer. They sold their 2 beef cows for 2 dairy cows. Heifer then built a milk collection facility so local farmers had a marketplace for their milk and byproducts. They now have 12 cows plus 3 of their son’s cows. They have “Passed The Gift” (more than once). Their income is now daily and are committed to re-investing. Loc said “we just use the money to buy more cows”, “I don’t buy any other items, like a cell phone, TV or Gold. I’m a farmer, so I am telling you the truth”.
