It’s been another busy and exciting week for myself, the LUMM and Heifer International. First, we were able to provide another 11 Flocks of Poultry, Meat, Eggs and other by-products for more of the hungry and poor of the world.
Secondly, Heifer International had funds to match 2 previous donations of 15 Flocks. The week’s total then is 41 Flocks. And this gift won’t expire for a long time. Just close your eyes and imagine the “Passing the Gift” ceremonies.
Tuesday, June 30, ends the “Flock Sale – 2”. Thanks to all of you for making it such a success. But, stay tuned, another big announcement next week.
Lakeview United Methodist Men set their fireworks off early this year. Thanks to the generous donors to the Flock Sale – 2, and a special donation I’ll talk about later.
First, Flock Sale – 2. Our program finished with the donation of 112 Flocks. To date, Heifer International has matched 15 Flocks (I expect more). What a special blessing to all the recipients of these Flocks. And, for some of the early donations, the “Passing The Gift” is only a couple of months away.
Then, as the Flock Sale – 2 was ending, a very special gift of $5,000 arrived with the request to donate a Gift Ark, 14 Pairs of Animals or Groups of Animals, plus a Community Animal Vet Kit.
All in all, approximately 185 families with the opportunity to relieve themselves of hunger and poverty. God Bless the givers and the gifts.
Heifer International doesn’t make one-time gifts and then walk away. Instead, they work directly in poor communities providing critical education, training and leadership. Then, with our help, they give them the direct assistance they need like chickens, cows, pigs, and even Alpacas so families can create their own farms and businesses and have steady incomes.
On May 28th this wonderful congregation donated 35 Flocks of Chicks. I have received word that Heifer International has matched that gift. Thus far, they have matched 50 of the original
112 flocks that we donated. Hallelujah!!
I found an anonymous quote that surely applies to us:
“We must see to those less fortunate than ourselves”
Most people think of charitable giving as something we do to solve an immediate need – giving food to eat, water to drink, a bed for the night. It addresses the need but it doesn’t solve the problem.
Heifer International allows us to go beyond that need, to solve the problem and make a lasting difference in the lives of poor families here and around the world.
The LUMM has money designated for both categories of our Cool, Clear, Water Program, #1 – The Irrigation Pump ($150) and #2 – the Gift of Clean Water ($300). #2 has now changed to “Clean Water for Life” ($750). It provides solar powered wells, water kiosks, irrigation systems or treadle pumps to community projects.
Water, the drink of life. In John 4:14 we read “but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”
Donations are welcomed and needed for the LUMM “Cool, Clear, Water” Project.
First, I want to report another match. Our donation on June 9, 2020 of 3 Flocks of Chicks was matched, that gives us a total of 66 Flocks matched out of 112. Praise God!
The Water Project has funds in both phases. #1 – Irrigation Pump and #2 – Water For Life. Please be reminded that the Irrigation Pump is one of the reasons that many girls get to go back to school. Carrying water all day is a big, tiresome job. To relieve some of the heavy lifting involved, a Water Drum has been put into service. Rather than carrying, it can be rolled on the ground. It’s going to take a lot more water now with 178 Flocks of Poultry. Let’s see what we can do to help out.
Thanking you for all your love and generosity in the Heifer Project.
