A Thank You from Pastor Linda

Pastor Linda

Recently, I met with our Staff Parish Ministry team to share news of my upcoming retirement from being an official member of the clergy team here at Lakeview United Methodist Church. Many of you have heard me talk of my plans for leaving my office as of June 30, 2024. Others, including our Bishop and our District Superintendent have known of it for a few months as has Pastor Dave.

You may be wondering why after the ten years I have served as part of your clergy team that I am choosing to make this change. The answer is simple: I want a few years to enjoy and build on long-planned but never fulfilled desires to travel and see family and friends, but most of all to build a truly fruitful relationship with new husband Hal Holady. Since our marriage on April 30th during the 9:30 worship service here at Lakeview, our time and efforts have been tied up by particulars of housing and changes in lifestyles and by my hours of employment. This year Hal will be 88, and I will celebrate my 84th birthday. I am delighted to have this unique opportunity in our eighties to adventure together for as long as we are able.

As for my status at Lakeview, I will remain as a retired Elder active in the church, but without an office or a job description. Hal and I will still participate in this wonderful congregation by teaching, serving and helping out as we are asked to do. With my reduced work schedule, he and I both are looking forward to being able to go and do more with as many of you as we can.

As we all continue to live and grow together, I am so thankful for this church and all of its members. You have traveled with me as I have traveled with you on this decade-long journey. You encouraged me when I came here, walked alongside me in my grief after my husband died a year later, welcomed my friend, Hal, when he first arrived from Tempe and were witnesses at our marriage. That is an ongoing pattern of care and caring that are exceptional and deeply appreciated. I will continue, I promise, to be part of your gracious caring as we continue journeying together.

God Bless You All! Pastor Linda
