Jesus Appears to the Disciples

19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors were locked where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Practicing proactive prayer for God to search our hearts and know our true desires, to surrender our expectations and submit to God’s will, and to be sent out into the world to be God’s hands and feet.

Relief and peace that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are with us. We are not on our own in doing important work for God.  When God calls us to do something, God gives us all that we need to make it happen.

We are sent to banish fear. Js greets disciples: peace be w/you. His gift. Sent to address anxieties of world/ overcome them. Js not ask disciples to conquer fear on their own; he breathes HS on them to help. Feeling fearful lately w/al that’s going on in the world? We are sent to do peacemaking work of Js in places of conflict, animosity, division. We are sent to forgive.. Jesus has been tortured & killed & the first thing says is, you have to deal with forgiveness. This is at the heart of the Christian faith. Ultimately it is God who forgives our sins, but it is God who helps us to do the hard work of letting go of wrongs, releasing anger.
