Welcoming – Pastor Ross
Prelude – What a Friend We Have in Jesus ‐ Converse
Meditation:
For grace to be grace, it must give us things we didn’t know we needed, such as the pain of loss, or illness, or spiritual drought. As we stumble through the altered landscape of our lives, we find that God is enjoying our attention as never before. And maybe that’s the point. We have finally dropped the mirror and are looking for God. ~Kathleen Norris

Job 38:2-7, 39:19-22, 40:6-9, 42:2,5,6 New Revised Standard Version
2 “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you shall declare to me.
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone
7 when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?
19 “Do you give the horse its might? Do you clothe its neck with mane?
20 Do you make it leap like the locust? Its majestic snorting is terrible.
21 It paws violently, exults mightily; it goes out to meet the weapons.
22 It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not turn back from the sword.
6 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:
7 “Gird up your loins like a man I will question you, and you declare to me.
8 Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be justified?
9 Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
2 “I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;
6 therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”
Finding God when suffering breaks our hearts. Discovering who God is when life offers suffering and doubt.
