What’s New in the Library?

NEW DVD

Love’s Unfolding Dream, the sixth installment of the films based on best-selling author Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly series.  The previous five DVD’s are also available in the library.  Adopted daughter Belinda is determined to be a doctor, despite the disapproval of  Doc Jackson and also her suitor.  With faith and hard work, she turns things around.  88 minutes

 NEW BOOKS

Josephus, the Complete Works, translated by William Whiston, A.M.  “This comprehensive account from the legendary Jewish historian takes you right into the action, setting up the historical relevance of first-century events, taking you all the way from Creation to Roman occupation.  In the process, Josephus provides substantial first-hand corroboration of the biblical record.”  Meet the historical Jesus, John the Baptist, and others. An excellent aid to understanding the background of the New Testament.  (Quote from publisher)

Red-Letter Christians, a Citizen’s Guide to Faith and Politics by Tony Campolo.  “Believing that Jesus is neither a Republican nor a Democrat, Red Letter Christians transcend partisan politics and concentrate on issues viewed critically through a moral and biblical lens…In this book Campolo examines many of the hot-button issues facing Evangelicals from the perspective of Jesus’ red-letter words in the Bible…No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, Campolo will make you think, pray and act.”  (Quote by publisher)

Healing Prayer, God’s Divine Intervention in Medicine, Faith, and Prayer by Reginald Cherry, M.D.  “Healing Prayer takes you inside a Christian doctor’s office and shows you, not only the medical but also the spiritual side of healing.  Dr. Cherry states, “Prayer is the divine key that unlocks God’s pathway of healing in both the natural and supernatural realms of life.”  His book is an inspiring guide for knowing how to pray for healing, alternative medicine, and the impact prayer has on healing.

Same Kind of Different as Me, the Amazing True Story by Ron Hall & Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent.  The story of a modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and the unlikely woman who bound them together. “Meet Denver , a man raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana in the 1960’s; a man who escaped, hopping a train to wander, homeless for eighteen years on the streets of Dallas , Texas .  No longer a slave, Denver ’s life was still hopeless-until God moved.  First came a godly woman who prayed, listened and obeyed.  And then came her husband, Ron, an international arts dealer at home in a world of Armani-suited millionaires. And then they all came together.”  (Quote from publisher)

Together, A Novel of Shared Vision by Tom Sullivan with Betty White.  Brenden McCarthy feels like he’s lost everything, all due to one tragic misstep while mountain climbing that cost him his sight.  But he’s about to gain the last thing he ever expected, a big-hearted black Labrador named Nelson.  A heartwarming story.
