UMC Caring Ministries
What does caring look like?
We believe that there are
several ways we care for one another. We pray for each other, we
listen to each other, and we help each other.
Our Prayer Tree is a
dynamic ministry which all can participate in. A call to the Church will
place a name on the prayer tree, and if you would like to be a part of
the prayer tree, the church office will ensure that you are placed in
touch with the organizer.
The care of the spiritual
self is of course the primary responsibility of the clergy team, but
they are assisted and supplemented by trained "Stephen
Ministers". Our program has declined in recent years but is now
headed by a person who is newly trained and is very enthusiastic to get
it up to speed again. It is anticipated that there will be training
classes for Stephen Ministers in the fall, the exact dates will be
announced in September.
The physical self is
cared for by our Care Council. This is composed of willing volunteers
who give their time and talent to assisting with such activities as
driving someone to a doctor's appointment, sitting with someone while a
spouse has surgery or being a temporary care giver while the regular
care giver takes a break.
As part of the ministry
of the church there are assisted listening devices available during
worship, tape recordings of worship services and tape recordings of our
parish newsletter for the visually impared. All of these are of course
available at no cost.
How do you "get
connected?"
First and foremost it is
our wish that you become part of the Family of God. Secondly that you
become part of a Church Family where you can enjoy friendship,
fellowship and support from a community which believes the
"God's Love Heals".
While Sunday Worship is
the time when we come together to praise God, it is not the only time we
gather. There are learning opportunities, social opportunities and
travel opportunities. The church supports an exercise program based on
low impact exercise three times a week, and is open to any and all. The
bridge Club meets weekly and usually has 4-8 tables, depending on the
time of year. The United Methodist Youthful Fellowship meets monthly on
the third Sunday. On the first Thursday of the winter months, beginning
in October, there is an 'all church Pot Luck' at 5pm. In October our
team that went to Kenya this year will show their photographs and tell
us about their adventures in Africa with the Kenya Medical Mission.
The first place to 'get
connected' is Sunday morning worship, at 8AM or 9:30AM. Will you join
us? We guarantee that someone will want to shake your hand and ask
you your name.
